Chilled Water Service Reductions

Jim Pfeil Date: February 28, 2014

The University in an effort to reduce energy consumption, and therefore our carbon footprint limits chilled water service for many facilities during Spring and Fall. Attached is a document that more fully explains which facilities will be provided service. Certain facilities will receive full normal service while others will be provided service for special events only.

Additionally those facilities with stand alone cooling systems are asked to also abstain from the use of cooling during this time period.

Should ambient outside temperatures result in indoor temperatures of 80 degrees F actions will be taken to limit temperatures from going higher.

It is imperative that facilities eligible for special event cooling inform the Utilities Department (Building Controls Group, Rich Warner, Supervisor, 1-8398 or at least 2 business days in advance of such events in order to ensure service.

Facilities not already listed for service either normally or for special events must follow the Special Exceptions procedures, please note this will require some additional time and therefore it is advised that you promptly submit any such requests.

There are many actions that can be taken by building occupants to either reduce heat gain or improve comfort during any warm days, the attached document offers a variety of suggestions.

Should there be any questions regarding this matter please feel free to contact the Utilities Department at 1-6594 or by email to

Thank you for your cooperation and involvement in assisting the University in reducing energy consumption.
